On June 11th, we had a fantastic evening of culinary conversation with journalist Clarissa Wei and Chef Tony Tung as they explored the question: "What is Taiwanese cuisine?"
Clarissa Wei is a Taiwanese American journalist and James Beard-nominated author of "Made in Taiwan: Recipes and Stories From The Island Nation." She stopped by Good To Eat on her trip back to Taiwan from the James Beard Award ceremony to sit down with Tony and Angie for an hour-long culinary chat. It was filled with behind the scene stories about the cookbook, historical context, and personal stories from everyone on the panel.
We had a capacity crowd with a vibrant atmosphere in our garden patio. As we started the evening, it was quickly became obvious, talking about Taiwanese food was a matter of identity and connection for many in attendance. We love building community through events like this, and we are grateful to have this opportunity for everyone to come together and share a meaningful evening together. Big shoutout to Clarissa Wei for joining us and sharing her stories!
Our first thought after the event was that "we need to do more events like this", especially as the patio is getting some nice summer vibes. So look forward to hosting more panels on various topics related to Taiwanese food in the near future!
